A Sales Manager must be a quality individual with characteristics of leadership, time-management, and organizational skills. Being a great sales person does not necessarily qualify someone to be a Sales Manager.

Sure, it's important that your sales people respect you. It really helps if you are a great closer and can walk the walk but that's peripheral. I have seen so many Sales Managers who fizzled and failed because they thought it was all about showing off and closing deals.
