Selling an Experience
Finding the perfect person to sell for your dealership can
be time-consuming, tedious and in a word -- frustrating --
often a seemingly impossible quest. You're probably looking
for an efficient, goal-driven go-getter who seems right in
sync with your work environment, able to project an upbeat,
"can-do" attitude and ready to close deals. If you've been
lucky -- very lucky -- all of your hires have turned out to
be productive, successful and cooperative individuals. You
can stop reading this article. However, if you're still
reading, you're like most managers and have had more than
your share of employee misfits who started out strong then
quickly plunged into that dismal, disappointing abyss
otherwise known as "a total sales disaster."
Almost everyone at one time or another has shopped for that
perfect vehicle. It is unlike any other purchasing
experience. Each shopper is unique. Emotions and
anticipations are high. Much is at stake. Excitement is
everywhere.
Automobiles need to be marketed by rapport-building
professionals who will not only escalate excitement but also
push hard enough to actually capitalize on it. Job
applicants know they're on display and usually try hard to
sell themselves -- present the image they think you will
like and, in turn, hire. They may seem driven and
determined, but look again! What you really are seeing might
be social assertiveness, a comfort with talking to people
not compelling them to act. Hiring a person who is friendly
and animated but not at all willing (or able) to press
others for results can be a huge, costly and highly
regrettable mistake.
In an ideal world we would be able to "test drive" job
candidates - bring them to the dealership for a few days,
benchmark them against longstanding good employees and see
how everyone relates. Even the most seemingly ideal sales
candidate -- the one with the undeniable experience, great
recommendations and clear ability to clinch deals -- can
prove disappointing if he or she is incompatible with your
particular work environment. That dream candidate can
quickly turn into a nightmare employee!
The Omnia ProfileŽ
While it may not be exactly like test driving a job
candidate, the Omnia ProfileŽ is probably the closest thing
to it! It's an outstanding management tool available to
anyone looking to lower the risk of matching the wrong
person to the job. Easy-to-read and eye-opening, this
straightforward analysis is useful not only for screening
applicants but also for determining a current employee's
strengths and weaknesses, thereby maximizing his or her full
potential.
It takes only a few minutes for your candidate/employee to
answer simple questions regarding work preferences. Because
the turnaround time for a completed Profile is typically 3
hours or less, you will quickly learn your
candidates'/employees' traits, know their compatibility with
your specific needs and make your management decisions
stress free and economical.
It's a great way to eliminate frustrations and increase
expectations!
